The Magic Numbers joined by famous friend for Lee Hazlewood tribute

The Magic Numbers teamed up with Martha Wainwright to pay tribute to songwriter Lee Hazlewood at Leicester's Summer Sundae festival yesterday (August 10).

The two acts performed Hazlewood's most famous song 'Some Velvet Morning', following his death last week.

"This is for a man who we were massive fans of," Romeo Stodart told the Main Stage crowd. "He died on Saturday, and we'd like to sing you one of his songs, with help from a special friend of ours."

Wainwright sung her words from a cue-card. She had alluded to the duet earlier in the day during her own set, saying: "I'm doing a song this evening with The Magic Numbers, one that we did last night at a festival in Scotland. I got rather drunk there, and, well... let's just say I don't remember actually doing it. So let's hope tonight goes a bit better."

Hazlewood, who died of cancer at the age of 78, is regarded by many as one of the most innovative songwriters of his era. He was also the pop svengali who wrote the Nancy Sinatra hit 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin''.

The Magic Numbers band also brought on rockabilly-revivalists Kitty, Daisy & Lewis for a freewheeling rockabilly jam session.

Elsewhere at Summer Sundae, Sophie Ellis-Bextor covered David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes', and !!! powered through a rammed headline set in the Indoor Arena.
